The founder of the Russian vaccine from COVID-19 explained her quick appearance

The creation of a Russian vaccine against the coronavirus took two weeks.

The center of Gamaliel began work on a vaccine against coronavirus in February, and took two weeks, said in an interview with “Medusa”, the Deputy Director on scientific work of the centre Denis Logunov. To develop it so quickly managed due to the developments of a similar vaccine against the virus MERS (the middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus) — it took three years.

“We did a vaccine against MERS and tried different options. It was a lot of work, we reached the second phase of clinical trials. So when there was another coronavirus, the closest sibling of the beta group of coronaviruses, we had no doubt what to do. Creative suffering was not. Kopipeyst in the literal sense,” said Mr. Logunov.

He added that awareness about the seriousness of the problem came after a conference of the world health organization in February, then the center and joined in the work. Denis Logunov noted that in choosing the path of development was no doubt. “We were not scared, we have passed this story many times. Again, we did a two-pronged vaccine against MERS and introduced her to the volunteers,” added Mr Logunov.

Recall that the first phase of clinical trials was held on 20 July. The Ministry of defense and sechenovskiy University, which vaccinated volunteers reported developing their immunity. The Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin expressed hope that the first vaccine will appear in the autumn.
