In Japan intend to refuse the deployment of U.S. missile defense systems

The government of Japan plans to spend the next few days a meeting of the Council of national security and to revoke the plan of deployment of us ground-based missile defense system Aegis Ashore. On Sunday, June 21, reported the TV channel NHK.

Mushrambo Prime Minister Abe intends to begin discussion of a new direction to the national security of the country until the end of September. Thus, the security strategy will be revised for the first time since its inception in 2013.

In addition, the Prime Minister also plans to revise the existing principles of national defence which were adopted two years ago.

On the deployment in Japan of the American missile defence reported on January 14. The Japanese authorities claimed that the deployment of American systems is related only to protect from attacks from the DPRK. At the same time, Aegis Ashore adapted not only for the launches of missiles, but also for use with these platforms, cruise missiles “Tomogavk” a range of up to 2.5 thousand km.

Deputy foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov said that for this reason Russia was not convinced by the position of the Japanese side about the fact that the deployment of Aegis Ashore will only serve to protect the region.

According to Ryabkov, Moscow sees in these systems a certain capacity, which could negatively affect the Russian Arsenal of strategic deterrence.

Ryabkov also expressed Russia’s concern about the material strengthening of the Japan-us strategic Alliance and capacity building of missile defense. The installation of Aegis Ashore, as previously reported by the Ministry of defense of Japan, is expected to expand by 2023, but their placement can be accelerated.
