In Ukraine for the period of quarantine became unemployed 200 thousand people

Since the announcement in Ukraine of quarantine regime in the country at 197 thousand increase in the number of unemployed. Today the total number is about 500 thousand. These figures were sounded by Denis Shmyhal Prime Minister of Ukraine, speaking on may 13, the Verkhovna Rada deputies.

Addressing the deputies, the Prime Minister noted that 197 thousand is the official figure, but unofficially this number is much more.

“Every week the number of unemployed will only increase”, — said Smigel.

According to preliminary estimates, in Ukraine by the end of 2020, the unemployment rate will be at the level of 9.4%.

“The biggest negative impact on the labour market has a coronavirus infection. We are in this situation should react. Only for the quarantine period, the army of unemployed has increased by almost 200 thousand people,” — said the Prime Minister.

For comparison, the unemployment rate in the past year in Ukraine amounted to 8.2%.

Since the beginning of the pandemic coronavirus infection in the country, a large number of enterprises have stopped their work, many business owners decided to reduce staff. Moreover, the release from quarantine will be gradual, so the business will not soon return to previous levels of activity, therefore, the labour market does not require large number of workers.
