COVID-19

Coronavirus COVID-19

In Spain, doctors have identified the earliest symptom COVID-19

A team of Spanish doctors conducted a study which found that patients with coronavirus observed another unusual symptom.

Scientists from the University hospital Ramon and Cajal in Madrid reviewed the status of 21 patients with a diagnosis of COVID-19. It is noted that all patients had a specific rash on the face.

Although skin rash has long been associated with COVID-19, Spanish doctors reported that in some cases there are lesions in the mouth — on the inner side of the cheeks.

These rashes clinically known as anathema, and no wonder that they appear together with other symptoms of coronavirus, according to doctors. Enanthema — a pathological symptom of lesions of the mucous membranes, which can be associated with infectious process in the body.

“Enanthema is a rash on the mucous membranes. It is very common in patients with viral infections such as chicken pox and the disease hand, foot and mouth. For many viral lesions characteristic lesions of the mucous membranes,” explains Dr. Michelle green, a practitioner in the Lenox hill hospital in new York.

In their study, the researchers chose patients with a diagnosis of COVID-19 and accompanying skin rash, since it is expected that some of them may appear and other symptoms.

It turned out that six patients (29%) were enanthema on the inside of the mouth. These patients were aged 40 to 69 years, and four of the six were women. Rash in the mouth appeared about two days before the appearance of other symptoms coronavirus.

The rash completely disappeared after 10-12 days after the first symptoms. In most cases, enanthema was not associated with any of the medications taken by the patients, which further strengthened the notion that it’s a new symptom coronavirus.

How widespread this symptom COVID-19, is still unknown.
