The future Hierarch lived in the first century. A native of Antioch, Apollinaris came to Rome with the Apostle Peter, where the disciples of Christ ordained him Bishop of Ravenna and blessed to go to confession.

In Ravenna the Saint came as a simple pilgrim and found shelter with a local resident warrior of Irenaeus. The whole family of a soldier believed in the Savior, when the Holy prayer healed the blind son of Irenaeus.

The Bishop preached in Ravenna for 12 years. Through the preaching of Apollinarius local Christian community from year to year. Pagans are strongly fought with the active St. — were incarcerated, tortured and banished from the city. When he was sent into exile, he preached among the remote tribes.

Somehow the Holy healed son of the ruler of Ravenna — since he himself harbored the Saint from his pursuers. But the rage of the Gentiles, the Bishop still overtook. Apollinaire was severely beaten — a long time problem, he died of his wounds.

Before death the Holy Martyr predicted that the time will come when Christians will be able to freely and openly practice their faith.
